Nina is an embalmer at her grandfather's funeral home — a cover for her real "business": she’s a Medium.
Since childhood, Nina has been able to visit the Borderland of the spirit world and help trapped souls move on. These are souls who were wronged in life and cannot accept their deaths. Nina acts as their healer and therapist. She’s been doing it for so long that encounters with spirits feel routine — just another part of life. Her job is like many others, except her “clients” are no longer living. Like a modern-day Charon, she charges a fee: sometimes forgotten valuables, other times useful information.
Nina’s “intuitions” are used by a police detective friend, an inheritance lawyer, and a local emergency responder.
They don’t fully believe in her abilities, but her insights help solve murders, frauds, and gruesome accidents. Nina is tough, uncompromising, and never reveals her sources — which makes her a suspect at times.
The death of her beloved grandfather brings to light secrets from her own family and crimes weighing on her lineage. Nina learns that her gift stems from a century-old curse. To break it, she must find the trapped souls of her ancestors and confront their unresolved desires — for forgiveness, revenge, and love.
She also discovers that a demon, born from a parent’s wrongdoing toward their child, is threatening the real world, the lives of her friends, and her sister Emma.
In the finale, Nina must reach the source of the curse. The fight with the demon becomes not just about saving lost souls, but also about saving herself.
And yet, Nina won’t back down. She’ll solve this case too — even if it costs her life.
